It was in the summer of '95 and school had reopened after a blisteringly scorching summer. We were walking back from school, all fifteen friends - haggard from the heat with pearls of sweat building on our foreheads, when we happened upon the open door of the office.

Peering through we could see the familiar faces of Mr Qayyum, Mr Siddique and Mrs Daisy Choudhury  but in amongst the melee was a new face; a face that was unfamiliar to us all but seemed excitable and confident. He stood, offered his outstretched hand and said "how are you?" - our only thought was, who is this person who presumes he is our friend - we made his life difficult- even hellish one could say... but all these years later this gentleman become our friend and to some our elder brother and mentor. Apu Bhai.
